Contest bug has hit me....

Soooo remember that book I told y'all to go out and buy a few months back...well the Author did it again. Katie Salidas recently released "Moonlight" which while not directly following Alyssa and Lysander, it is an Immortalis novel. This one focuses on Fallon and her furry, hunky, boy toy Aiden; the Alpha of the Olde Town Pack in Boston. Not gonna lie, while I like Aiden and do like Fallon as his mate part of me wanted to see her and Nicholas end up together... Anyways Fallon needs to decide to become furry or see Aiden with another woman, well werewolf. My only real negative about this installment is it was too short! I didnt want it to end! You NEED to go read it...I mean it...go buy it, dont borrow it, buy it totally worth it! Oh and speaking of Nicholas.... he needs a mate and Katie Salidas is looking to us, the fan base, for a mate (but really I dont want y'all to enter cause well to qoute "Finding Nemo"...."MINE" ;p )but...if you insist on checking it out (or commenting on the blog post telling Katie I should win..hint hint) heres the URL http://www.katiesalidas.com/2012/10/become-character-contest.html

Book Review: Soulstone

So kiddies here it is...that book review I promised you about Soulstone by Katie Salidas. Well the latest installment of the Immortalis series was not a disappointment at all. I particularly enjoyed the continuing development of Nicholas, in this novel he starts to become more then a cranky, old solider who seems to only brood around, in this novel he has a sense of humor! Also the continuing love affair between our favorite human and a certain fuzzy, piece of eye candy :D I wont go into too much detail about this one in particular (I don't want to give too much away!) but you should pick up a copy...like NOW! Seriously...get the series :D DO ITTTT!!!!!

Book Review coming soon!

I have been reading the Immortalis Series by Katie Salidas and I am completely hooked! I am one of those people who get very involved with the characters in the books that I read so character development is very important to me. Well Katie does not disappoint! Set in Sin City the Immortalis Series centers on Alyssa, a newly turned Vampire, and her sire and mate Lysander. We all can see some of ourselves in Alyssa, a magnet for trouble who is having difficulties accepting her new life style and we all want a Lysander in our lives (a living Greek statue who is devoted to Alyssa). When Katie released book 4 of the series "Soulstone" she put an open call for bloggers to review her newest addition and of course I jumped at the chance! That is the book I will be reviewing here for you soon! Look for the review next week, and in the meantime do yourself a favor & go buy the series! http://www.katiesalidas.com/p/buy-books.html

Kid friendly and EXTREMLY simple (also cheap)

So one thing all mil spouses deal with is how to feed the brood without going bankrupt, which is a challenge (esp when you have 2 human garbage disposals to feed like I do). Mac n Cheese is a major staple in this house but plain Mac n Cheese wont cut it for my meat and potatoes hubby...the answer is add meat! On rotation is Chilli Mac (chilli sans the beans), Taco Mac (taco meat), Chicken Veggie Mac (Can of chicken with a bag of corn & peas). Newest item in the rotation....
Country Sausage Mac
Brown a pound of country sausage add it to a cooked thing of mac n cheese. Then add a bag of cooked peas and dinner is ready :D

Also for dessert.... Blueberry 2 ingredient cake :D
Take 1 box of Angel Food Cake mix and add 1 can of Blueberry pie filling (any berry filling is OK)
then bake according to the package directions (do NOT add anything else to the mix!)
BTW the box will say that it isnt done until the crack in it is dry...that doesnt apply here
finished product:

serve with cool whip :D

Turkey Tortilla Bake

So I made this the other day and it was really good! Its also wicked easy!
You need.....

plus
(1 lbs ground turkey browned)
and
(actually you need 9-10 corn tortillas warmed in the oven @ 400 degrees for about 4 min on one side 2 or so on the other)
as well as a medium onion diced, shredded cheese and 2 tbsp of chilli seasoning

What you need to do;
1. after browning the meat (with the onion) add the seasoning, taco sauce, corn & can of rotel. Simmer until the corn is cooked

2. layer bottom of the baking dish with 3 or so of the tortillas then layer with half the cheese
3. layer with another 3 tortillas and then repeat #2

4. Top with remaining tortillas and cheese

5. Bake at 350 until heated through and top with crumbled up remaining tortillas

Viola!

So updates and stuff

So the game... I called it in and did bottled water and had another mom bring snack. She did oranges and Special K bars (not the worse things ever but I am a little concerned with giving 8 year old girls special K bars...better get used to that diet food now honey :/ )
Since then I have not been doing much in the whole fine tuning my domestic skills area... we got our tax return so I have been ordering take out A LOT and I have gotten lazy around the house. BUT this week I have been good! I have cooked dinner (and a real dinner) every night BUT last night. I went to a pot luck so I brought beer bread, 3 dips, a cake and meatballs (BTW if you havent ever had beer bread go to Tastefully Simple's web site and order some NOW! You can thank me later) while I was eating my mismatched noms with friends the hubby was on SWTOR killing random pixelated Rebels and eating frozen pizza (aka nerd paradise... well almost there was no dorritos, mountain dew, or hot chick dressed as slave girl Leia... it was as close as his ass is ever gonna get though lol)
I will be posting the recipes and such (for the successes... the failures we will never speak of those) soon. But I am gonna end it here because I feel like baking and since it is again midnight Wookie gets to take Brownies to work. I will spend a portion of tomorrow contemplating how to get the guys at work to conspire with me to embarrass him on Sunday since he is working on his birthday :D

Hmmm should I bother with sleep?

So I am tired... I really am but IDK if its even worth it to sleep. Its almost 3am and well the interwebz is too entertaining tonight! I am in an online mommies group and there was some drama to catch up on, then I signed up for a book review (which will be on here in May and I am SO WICKED EXCITED!), and had to try to figure out what to bring for snack on Sunday to my kids game (see post before this for that rant) and yeah its 3am. I SHOULD probably try to do something useful like clean or exercise but I think I will find the remains of my double stuff oreo stash and plant my chubby butt on the couch since hubby is working tonight that means I dont need to share :D <3

Oh and little debbie is the freaken devil! I got the jumbo sized pack of those oatmeal pies (2 for $7 at wally world! WOOT!!) I think the box is half gone now (I bought it yesterday)

AND can I say I am wicked excited that Diablo III is FINALLY coming out!I am not a hard core gamer by any stretch of the imagination (heck I am hardly even a gaming dabbler) but I have been DYING for this to come out! May 15th isnt coming soon enough!!!!! *$20 says my husband takes time off work for this just like he did for WoW Burning Crusade and SWOTR*

What the....

So my munchkin has her 1st field hockey game this weekend and I am bringing the snack for the team. So I turn to google for ideas and I am just appalled at what I have found... Waffle Skewers (frozen waffles that have been heated through then cut into squares allowed to cool then slathered in PB, stuck on a stick with some bananas :which will turn to brown mush in moments no doubt: and grapes...Chocolate covered pretzels...those elf fudge cookies...and probably the worst RICE KRSPIES TREATS! Oh and dont forget the juice box thats less then 1% juice and about 80% high fructose corn sryup. yyyeeeeaaaahhhh I am by no means a health food freak but OMG people! These are our kids! We're the ones responsible for their eating habits and their health until they have the means to make those choices themselves (ie a car and a job), so why on earth give them this crap!? Especially after a game!

I am going to post a follow up to this entry with what I have been able to find as healthy alternatives to the junk

So there is nothing more annoying in the Mom universe then the childless I know everything bitch. Ok well maybe its more annoying when the dryer breaks with a load of soaking wet diapers in it but....
I saw this on FB today and OMG I want to share this with a particular childless know it all hippie crazy bitch.

She seems to think that raising my child in ANY religion is akin to allowing the TV to raise her and that expectations are abuse... yeah STFU bitch and reproduce before you speak

my dorkiness

so since some of y'all are not aware of my geekness let me share...
I am a nerd/dork/geek whatever you wanna call it. I love books! Its unhealthy really and my husband shivers when he hears me say Barnes and Noble... or even worse... the phrase "I'm going to the used bookstore" is enough to move him to cowering in a corner guarding his wallet.

Right now I am reading the Percy Jackson series... yes I am one of those people who felt lost once Harry killed Voldemort but its a pretty good series :D I am SUPPOSED to be reading a play for my book club and I love it but I really just feel like reading about mythological creatures trying to kill teenagers :D so I have every intention of skimming the cliff notes right before the meeting and sooo cheating this week lol

But speaking of books... once I am done with this series I need to find a new one. I think I am at a point where I think I needs some vampires in my life... there is one series I have been reading and I am waiting for the 4th book to come out and I THINK its almost out!!! Squee!

DAMN YOU INTERWEBZ!!!

So its about time for me to go get the big one from school... and I still havent had a thing to eat. Chunkamunk however has drained 30oz of formula today so at least one of us is eating right!? He is also chilling in a diaper right now and loving it... getting him dressed is gonna suck. But yeah Damn you interwebz... I would LOVE to blame not eating on my chunky little man but nope its the interwebz. I kept finding pretty things to look at...diapers to dream of buying (yeah I am a crazy cloth diapering momma... :p...and posts to make fun of people for. If I could blame chunkamonk I would just have to look at him and be ok cause he cute and chunky and well we all know the cutest babies are the chunky ones :) so it'd be ok but nope I just have to blame the 2 glowing screens in front of me and my ADD taking over my urge to eat.

Wookie better remember I am "the good little wife"

yup he better it is midnight and I have a batch of brownies in the oven for him to take to work in the morning just cause. Well not really just cause its more I thought about cleaning my kitchen I really did and then I found the oreos and brownie mix... and knew I had to chose one but oreos, while the least labor intensive snack, would not help delay the necessary cleaning (some times I think I have adult onset ADD/ADHD but I dont want meds so I wont see the Doc cause well life is not so much fun without all the random SQUIRREL moments). So I did what any good little wife would do... I said fuck the cleaning, mixed up the brownies and sat down at the computer with a plate of oreos and a big ass glass of milk. And this is a success story for me cause I only sat down with EIGHT cookies not the entire box :D Yay self control!!!!!

Now that I am smelling them IDK if they will go to work I may say screw it and keep them here. I have a prego friend coming over in the AM and she is tiny...she NEEDS a brownie...the BABY NEEDS a brownie (damn I miss that excuse)

so its been forever

since I checked here and I really need to make myself log in more...oh to find a way to do this.
anyway so I had the baby! Joe was born on Dec 9 weighing in at 9lbs 4oz and measuring at 21 3/4 inches long. Yup he is a big boy! Now at 12 weeks is he 16 1/2 lbs, and 25 1/2 inches long :D
the big munchkin was diagnosed on Dec 27th as having ASD (Atrial Septal Defect) in layman's terms a hole in her heart. The hole was recently closed successfully through a catheterization so no incision! YAY! She is doing well and was able to return to school the following Monday (she had the procedure on a Thursday)
And I gots a job! Part time but hey a paycheck is a paycheck :D
Hubby gets to take the 1st class exam soon so if there is anyone reading this fingers crossed please!
So thats it for our daily life here...

I did join this page on Facebook that is designed to help parents on both sides of the Vax debate to be able to share information CIVILLY. Well apparently some people don't understand what civil means... page was up for 4 hours before someone was banned for being an idiot... yeah that took skill *roll eyes*
Some people really need to wake up and stop depending on Dr. Google for their medical advice.
so I think this is it... I need to try to make this place (both home and the blog) look better....
